Aftercare
Caring for your new tattoo.
Follow these guidelines during healing. Jessie will explain anything specific to your piece on the day — if something does not look or feel right, get in touch rather than waiting it out.

First few hours
Your tattoo will be covered when you leave the studio. Keep the initial covering on for the time Jessie advises — usually a few hours, unless you are given aftercare film to leave on longer.
When it is time to remove the covering, wash your hands first. Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry — do not rub.
Days 1–14
- Apply a thin layer of the aftercare product Jessie recommends, or a plain, fragrance-free moisturiser if nothing else was specified.
- Wash the tattoo gently once or twice a day, then moisturise lightly.
- Do not pick, scratch or peel flaking skin — it is a normal part of healing.
- Avoid soaking the tattoo: no baths, swimming pools, hot tubs or long showers with direct spray on the area.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight and avoid sunbeds while it heals.
- Wear loose, clean clothing that will not rub or stick to the tattoo.
- Hold off heavy gym sessions or activities that will soak, stretch or heavily sweat the area for the first few days, unless Jessie has said otherwise.
What to expect
Some redness, tenderness and light weeping in the first day or two is normal. The tattoo may feel tight or itchy as it heals. Colour and clarity settle over several weeks — a fresh tattoo rarely looks exactly like the healed result.
When to contact Jessie
Get in touch if you notice signs that concern you — for example spreading redness, unusual swelling, heat, pus, fever, or symptoms that worsen rather than improve after the first couple of days. If you are worried about your health, contact NHS 111 or your GP.
Questions about healing can be sent through the contact page.
Long term
Once fully healed, use SPF on tattooed skin when it will be exposed to the sun. Well-healed work keeps its clarity for longer with sensible sun protection.
